Riders,

I hope that you all had a great winter. It actually was the worst winter ever in NJ for me. I checked out Lewis Morris a couple weeks ago and the trails look good. There are some wet sections on the back side which we’ll avoid on Weds.   So the “official”  Weekly Weds Mountain Bike Ride @ Lewis Morris  Season will START next week!!!!!

For you newbies:

When: Every Weds starting April 13, 2011, end sometime in the fall when there is no more light.

Where: Meet at Patriot Path Parking lot off of Sussex Road.

What time: Start at 6PM. Warm up on Patriot’s Path, then into LM and back.

Check Marty’s Reliable Cycle site if you need a map/directions.

Ok, see ya all on Weds April 13th

Later.

Essex County Squanders TM – No MTB Sticks

The South Mountain Conservancy held their Annual Meeting last night at the Maplewood Library. Among other topics, the topic of the Sustainable Trails Initiative and proposed Mountain Biking Pilot was touched upon. In addition the Press Release below was circulated.

The take-away: the good will of our volunteers is being taken for granted and its clear that Essex County is unwilling to make a decision on this the adoption of the Mountain Biking Plan. Essex County residents will need to convince the elected representatives that mountain biking is a legitimate activity in the reservation and that the pilot should be implemented this Spring as was promised at last year’s Annual Meeting. Marty’s Reliable Cycle “Number 1 Bike Shop in New Jersey!”

http://njmonthly.com/articles/lifestyle/best-of-new-jersey-shopping.html

And we quote from NJ Monthly.com:

“BIKE SHOP
Marty Epstein has operated Marty’s Reliable Cycle in Morristown since 1978 and now has two additional stores in Randolph and Hackettstown. As might be expected, Epstein and his staff (including son Jesse) are passionate about two-wheeling. Their motto: “Saving the world with bikes.” Marty’s carries Specialized, Trek and other bicycle brands, and the stores cater to all ages and levels of riders. They also run weekly rides out of all three locations. “We think biking is good for people and good for the environment,” Epstein says. (173 Speedwell,    973-538-7773      martysreliable.com)”

Gran Fondo NJ, August 26-28, 2011

Please Visit for more information.  http://granfondonj.com/

Gran Fondo NJ, August 26-28, 2011

Welcome to the first Gran Fondo in New Jersey! You will start this amazing day with a ride around the historic Morristown Green in downtown Morristown, NJ. It will be the beginning of an epic day full of cycling challenges, beautiful roads, memorable experiences and lots of fun.

This ride will not only be fun, but it will benefit many. We will be riding to raise money for The Seeing Eye, Homeless Solutions, Inc. and Grow it Green Morristown.

Be on the look-out for themed rest stops, challenging timed hill climbs, plenty of food and, of course, a finish line festival.

The event will start and finish at our host hotel, Hyatt Morristown in downtown Morristown. The Hyatt Morristown is offering weekend package room rates so Gran Fondo NJ participants can enjoy an entire weekend of events.

Gran Fondo NJ will have three distance options:

Gran Fondo — a 103-mile ride with 4 timed hill climbs and 5 rest stops;

Medio Fondo — a 63-mile ride with 3 timed hill climbs and 3 rest stops;

Piccolo Fondo — a 40-mile ride with 1 timed hill climb and 1 rest stop.

Start time is 7:00am on Sunday, August 28, 2011.

What Is Gran Fondo NJ?

Gran Fondo (GFNJ) means “big ride” or “big endurance” in Italian. GFNJ brings the excitement of a mass participation ride to New Jersey. The ride —not a race— will feature timed hill climbs with all the carnival-like culture of European tour mountain climbs. Each climb will have a king of the mountain (KoM) and queen of the mountain (QoM) and there will be overall KoM a QoM awards.

Gran Fondo NJ will be just like the Gran Fondo rides of Europe only with our unique and scenic roads and great Jersey Fresh refreshments. Expect the unexpected at our rest stops. The stops will be stocked not only with local foods but also cycling specific energy drinks and food to keep you going for the entire ride. Each rest stop will different and unique and will also feature entertainment and activities.

You can stop and enjoy all the activities at the various rest stops or take advantage of the “express line” for quick refueling and other ride necessities.
