Downhill racing wrapped up on the first weekend of November at Plattekill Mountain. It was the series finale for the Eastern States Cup. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful for a race that had been cancelled and rescheduled twice due to less than idyllic weather conditions. Practice proved to be challenging due to the ground being frozen in some spots. Every racer was slipping and sliding and trying to decide on what tires to race. As Saturday came to a close the few campers began pitching tents and building fires for the long cold night. In the morning we were told the temperature got down to around fifteen degrees over night. After a few last minute practice runs it was time to line up for race time. Unfortunately my race run wasn’t as clean as some of my practice runs. I finished second in the race and second for the season overall. Joaquin also raced to a fourth place finish. He was faced with an extremely steep Pro course.  He wrapped up the series with second place overall in the cat2 mens 30+ catagory. As a special prize for those racers who made it to all eleven of the Eastern States Cup races, I received an e.13 chain guide, a special plaque and a season pass for Plattekill for the 2012 season. I was only one of four who received this honor. As cold as it was out there, I wished the weekend didn’t have to come to an end. It was sad to say goodbye to all of our biking friends for the season. And so I’m signing off for the year and I look forward to blogging about the new season after a much deserved winter break!
