A Silver Medal at the 2011 Gravity East Series Finals (Blue Mt. PA)
By: Joaquin
This past weekend, Blue Mountain resort in PA was the home of the last stop of the 2011 Gravity East Series. Although Jennel chose to concentrate on the Eastern States Cup series, she was still able to squeeze in 4 races in the GES series. One of these races would be the finals, which always happens to be a double points event. The course was built and designed by World Cup Rider and Trek World Racing team member Neko Mullaly. The course proved to be equally as challenging as it was fast and fun. The practice conditions for Saturday could not have been more perfect. The course was tacky and fast. At first, Jennel was a bit terrified of the challenging nature of the Pro built course. As the practice session continued, she became more comfortable in each and every practice run. By the end of practice on Saturday, she was really pumped and couldn’t wait to race on Sunday. Unfortunately, the rains started to fall Saturday late afternoon and wouldn’t stop until Sunday afternoon. Saturday night we scrambled to mount maxxis wetscreams knowing the course would quickly turn to mud. Sunday morning arrived and as anticipated, the once perfectly dry fast course had turned into a slippery muddy mess. Freshly off her win at a muddy track at the US nationals the previous week, Jennel was confident that she would keep it together and have another great run. They called her number up and down she came mistake free while riding all her practiced lines. When all the ladies crossed the finish line, Jennel would have the second fastest time in the ladies Cat 3/2 Open class. Awards time came and she earned a silver medal for the days effort and 4th overall for the season. Next up, the last two races of the Eastern States Cup Series being held at Plattekill Bike Park in Roxbury NY.
